The chart shows the number of the world’s young population who are out of school across primary- and secondary-school-age. For 1998 it is estimated that 381 million children were out of school. Until 2014 this number fell to 263 million, despite an increase in the global young population. NRC aims to ensure that children and youth affected by displacement enjoy quality education that is relevant to their psychosocial, emotional and cognitive development, across all phases of displacement. Recognising that governments are the primary duty bearer, we support governments to uphold their duties, including through teacher professional development and the construction or rehabilitation of schools. We are the world’s only partnership and fund focused on providing quality education to children in lower-income countries.
